Treatment

TREATMENT Target Audience -  > Although I will portray a younger protagonist I will focus mainly on portraying the older girl as my target audience will be able to relate to them now as they will be a similar age. However, I have decided to portray younger as well as teenage/young adult instead of older as everyone within my target audience will also relate to being younger however the representation of an older generation to them might interest them less as they will not have experienced this part of life yet. Therefore, through age my video will appeal to my target audience.  > I also aim to use a variety of editing and camera techniques in order to build up anticipation for the denouement of the narrative. As a result this will act as a vehicle to keep my audience watching the video and therefore make it appealing to them.  > The use of the locations will also attract my target audience as, although set and filmed in Ireland, will be reminiscent of ...

Statement of Intent

Q. How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief? Product 1 - For my pop music video I am using the song 'Waves' by Dean Lewis. I am planning to emulate the sound of the song through my beach and love-based video whilst still relating to the fun and loving 16-25 year-old mass market demographic and to produce a music video that ultimately advertises the song and artist as enjoyable and emotional to listen to. I plan to target this demographic through setting and characters which they will be able to relate to. I have decided not to include the artist in the music video. This is owing to the fact that I am wanting to produce more of a narrative based music video and I feel as if I included the artist it would distract from the story. Furthermore, as my mass market target audience would be used to listening to mainstream music videos which would include the artist, this would ...

My Track

I have chosen to use the song 'Waves' by Dean Lewis. This is because, although it is a slow song, it tells an exciting story through the consistent changes in tempo and pace as well as the powerful vocals throughout. Therefore, this will allow me to create a narrative through visuals which I can fit to the performance aspect already within the song. It fits into the pop genre through its common use of repeated choruses, melodic tunes and hooks. Also its lyrics tend to focus on love, as well as other simple themes, which songs within the pop genre stereotypically focus on. As a result Dean Lewis conforms with the SONY signed artists. Moreover, the emotions conveyed through these powerful lyrics will allow me to incorporate some of my ideas and build relationships between characters in relation to the song. As a result my visuals will match to the lyrics and therefore this will appeal to the viewer. Consequently, the song 'Waves' gives me opportunities to create the b...

Perfect audience member

Attracting the perfect Audience Member – Cross-media production target audience: A fun, loving 16-25-year-old mass market audience. -           My audience member would listen to mainstream and current pop music which would reflect my video’s narrative and performative nature. -           They would have a genuine interest in music and possibly even play an instrument as, within the song ‘Waves’ the guitar is extremely prevalent to the melody as well as the vocals which would therefore target a musical person as well as those who listen for enjoyment. Also my video will include a guitar which will therefore be interesting to them. -           My audience member would wear quite casual, loose, flowing clothes which are reminiscent of the movement of the sea which implies that they are constantly moving from place to place – restless. I...

Copywright

Dear the owners of the copyright to Dean Lewis' song 'Waves', I am writing to ask your permission to use the song 'Waves' by Dean Lewis to make a music video for my A-level media coursework during the summer of 2019. Our brief is to make a 3 minute video using a song from the pop genre and I have chosen this song because of its meaningful lyrics and exciting melody. Once the music video is finished it will be posted to my class' private You Tube channel which only allows my classmates, and teachers to view. I would be very grateful if I receive permission from Dean Lewis' record company at the time: 'Island Australia' because of their rights and therefore copyright over the song. Yours sincerely, Imogen Bridges.
